Kicking off Free Music Month, happening every Thursday and Friday throughout the month of September, is our funkalicious (did I really just use that word?) event called Funk at the Fred on September 5. I’ve already told you about the show featuring Dance Band, The Battle Royale and MC/VL, so now it’s time to spill the beans on something else. It involves mascots, dancing, and Mesa Pizza. Funk at the Fred is happy to have Mesa Pizza back again this year to hand out free, yes FREE, pizza to attendees. If you haven’t had mac and cheese pizza, you simply have not lived. Hey Folks! Fall bookings are underway at the Whole, and we're looking to do a University Band Night on September 19th. We're doing a call for all student bands! Shoot an e-mail to concerts@umn.edu with the headline: UBand Submission. Include your band name, MySpace (or other EPK address), and contact e-mail. The submission deadline will be next Friday, August 15th. Ready? Go!

Let me just say that I wanted to title this, “Holy Funk!” Ok, onto the good news! We have our line-up set. It is… Dance Band with The Battle Royale and MC/VL! Dance Band and MC/VL have both played the Whole recently, and The Battle Royale member Grace Fiddler was here with One for the Team last spring. There are also some other secret shenanigans going on this year at Funk at the Fred that I will reveal as the day gets closer, but let’s just say fun will be had by all. I promise. Videos from Sleater-Kinney, Emily's Sassy Lime, Swirlies, and Lazy rocking the Whole. Hurray Kevin! Cool to see that brick wall in the back of the stage. Looked great, sounded terrible...
